I’ve always been fascinated by the places where two completely different forces meet. Where fire reaches the water, where brilliant sunlight disappears into deep blue shadows, and where things that seem like they shouldn’t belong together somehow create something extraordinary.
Scarlet Riptide reminds me of that beautiful collision. The moment when opposing colors find one another and begin moving together, creating something neither could have become on its own.
Brilliant scarlet red and molten orange flow through this marble in sweeping ribbons of warmth, meeting intense cobalt blue, electric violet, and flashes of luminous turquoise. Delicate spirals of ivory and iridescent glass curl between the colors, folding into intricate patterns that seem to twist and turn beneath the surface. Shimmering gold and copper reflections illuminate the deeper layers, creating little pockets of light throughout the composition.
There is something almost hypnotic about the movement inside this piece. The red is incredibly rich and saturated, like sunlight passing through the last glowing embers of a fire. Against it, the brilliant blues feel cool and mysterious, creating a contrast that makes both colors appear even more intense.
What I especially love are the delicate spirals suspended between those larger areas of color. Some are tightly wound, while others stretch into graceful curves, following the movement of the glass as though they were caught in an invisible current. Tiny bubbles remain scattered throughout, little reminders of the incredible transformation that takes place inside the flame.
And then there is the way the light changes everything.
From one direction, the marble glows with fiery scarlet and golden amber. Turn it slightly, and a beautiful expanse of electric blue emerges from beneath the warmer colors. The iridescent details begin reflecting violet, turquoise, and copper, revealing little landscapes that weren’t visible a moment before.
I think one of the things I love most about glass is that I can bring all of these seemingly opposite things together. Fire and water. Warmth and coolness. Transparency and color. Movement and stillness.
There is a moment in the flame when the glass is fluid enough to become almost anything, and every little movement has the potential to change what comes next. Eventually, all of that movement becomes permanent, but somehow the energy of it remains.
Scarlet Riptide is a one-of-a-kind 33 mm art glass marble, handcrafted in the flame and filled with brilliant color, intricate spirals, and beautiful layers of light.
A little world where fire meets water, where colors move without boundaries, and where something extraordinary happens in the space between.
