Indira, A Beautiful Collision | 30mm
I have always been fascinated by the way seemingly opposite things can come together to create something extraordinary. The warmth of sunlight against cool water. The brilliant colors of a sunset reflected in the ocean. The way two entirely different experiences can somehow belong to the same beautiful moment.
Indira is a feminine name of Sanskrit origin associated with beauty and splendor, and is also a name of the goddess Lakshmi. I love the idea of beauty being something expansive, something that cannot be confined to a single color, feeling, or definition.
This marble feels like a celebration of everything beautiful that happens when different worlds meet.
Brilliant cobalt and electric blue sweep across the glass in bold, luminous waves, surrounding vivid flashes of tangerine, coral, and fiery red. Unexpected ribbons of lime green, turquoise, violet, and magenta weave between the layers, while delicate black and white striped details create little moments of intricate contrast. Shimmering metallic accents catch the light beneath the surface, adding an extraordinary sense of depth and movement.
One of my favorite features is the way the blue seems to flow around the warmer colors. There is an almost liquid quality to the glass, as though currents of color have been captured in the middle of some beautiful, impossible dance. Turn the marble, and entirely different compositions emerge. From one perspective, the electric blues command your attention. From another, the brilliant greens and orange seem to illuminate everything around them.
I think we sometimes spend too much time trying to make everything in our lives fit together perfectly. We search for balance as though it means everything should be equal, predictable, and neatly arranged.
But nature has never really worked that way.
Some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen are filled with extraordinary contrasts. Mountains rising beside impossibly blue water. Wildflowers growing between rocks. Brilliant sunlight breaking through a sky still heavy with rain.
Indira reminds me that harmony doesn’t require everything to be the same.
Sometimes beauty is found in the differences themselves, in the unexpected ways things come together, and in the realization that we can hold so many wonderfully different colors within ourselves and still be something entirely whole.
***small surface kiln kiss - it was far too pretty to risk a remelt to smooth it out. She’s perfectly imperfect
